When his children were very young, Captain Philip Martin-Dye would tell them stories about a group of airplane characters and their adventures at an airfield. The characters became their friends and the stories were a much loved bedtime routine. Captain Martin-Dye was encouraged by friend and television artist, the late Tony Hart, to write down all the stories, and the Airfield Adventures series was born.
